Membership
The National Honor Society is a very prestigious organization and all members are expected to uphold the standards of the organization and follow all its rules.
-
Participate in and support all chapter projects throughout the year, whether these involve service, fundraising, leadership and training, or other outreach to the school or community.
-
Promote service through your individual service project activities and by supporting service activities done by other groups both at school and in the community.
-
Assume a leadership role in the chapter. Consider running for office, serving as a committee chair, or volunteering for a specific responsibility at least once each year. Respect and support other chapter leaders in their duties and responsibilities.
-
Welcome new members—whether new inductees or transfer members—to help each of them become an active part of the chapter quickly
-
Pay NHS Dues willingly and on time. (If you have financial difficulty in paying membership dues, speak with your chapter advisor. Your inability to pay dues is not grounds for discipline or dismissal.)
-
Communicate effectively. Share ideas and information about chapter activities whenever possible. Be a good listener and a strong oral and written communicator.
-
Motivate others and yourself to get involved and remain engaged to support your chapter’s activities. Help all students find one activity that they can become involved in to enhance their experience at school.
-
Be a good citizen at the local, state, national, and global level. Support and encourage the ongoing use of democratic principles in all aspects of chapter activity. Be fair.
-
You MUST maintain a 3.3 GPA to keep from having a major probation. Let us know if you are struggling with grades in a course, so we can try to help you.
-
You signed an Honor Code when you completed an application to be in the National Honor Society. If you receive SAC or any greater punishment for any reason, it could result in a major probation or in some cases, expulsion from NHS. Academic dishonesty in any form- cheating, plagiarizing, copying, or allowing others to cheat, plagiarize, or copy from you will NOT be tolerated!
-
Be a role model. You represent your chapter and the national organization. Each member represents the Honor Society and retains a responsibility to reflect the values of the organization in all that he or she does.
